Hirsch was a Law Clerk to former Iowa Supreme Court Justice Clay LeGrand, 1973-1974. 

Hirsch is co-author of the new book . The book, like a detective story, cracks Lincoln’s code for presenting legal arguments and writing speeches. Lincoln’s template is replicatable. Anyone can learn to speak, write and argue like Lincoln. Hirsch also co-authored . The president began using Lincoln’s technique in January 2011. , former Speaker of the House now uses the technique. David Hirsch uses the technique in briefs and arguments. The technique builds credibility, and results in quicker, more efficient, more effective, legal service.

Hirsch is also the author of DepPrep, an electronic deposition preparation program (in slide format), originally marketed by CaseSoft, and then by LexisNexis. Hirsch was a columnist for the American Bar Association’s ABA Journal for over 10 years. Hirsch has other legal publications in The Federal Lawyer and elsewhere. Hirsch has spoken across the country at seminars and meetings.

Hirsch served on various committees for the Iowa State Bar Association and the Supreme Court of Iowa. He is a former President of the Des Moines County Bar Association and the Des Moines County Law Library Association. He is a member of the Polk County Bar Association, Iowa State Bar Association, and the Iowa Association for Justice.
